Mental health support If you are struggling with any mental health issues, for whatever reason, we are here to help you. Counselling - Our One to One counselling service helps you (as long as you are aged 9 to 25 years old) with your mental health issues. Our friendly counsellors are expertly trained which means we can help you by using a variety of therapy techniques. Whatever the issues affecting your life we are here to help. This includes depression, anxiety, bullying, self-harming, loss and bereavement. If you don’t want to come to our building then our counsellors can meet you wherever you feel safe and are currently available evenings and Saturday mornings too. A young person helped through our counselling service said: Talking helps me, having a place that's safe to talk helps me feel that I can cope with life, and stops me believing all the rubbish stuff that's going on in my head. We do offer these services free of charge in some areas, so please contact us to find out if you are eligible. To find out more about our counselling service you can drop in to our Young People's Service based on the West Road in Newcastle, use our contact us form, ring 0191 273 3997 or [email protected]. You can also ring or text 07720 089482. Student Counselling placements The Young People's Counselling Service has placed its student placement and volunteer recruitment process on hold due to the current pandemic situation. We are not able to offer our usual programme of training or provide the same level of support for new students while most of the counsellors continue to work from home. We hope to be opening this process from January 2021. All new persons coming into our team will now need to complete training to work online as well as face to face so please consider this when applying. You may wish to complete BACP training to work with young people in this way before you apply. Please also consider how you would meet the needs of the placement if you were asked to work from home initially. We recruit students and volunteers in a group cohort so you will be asked to complete an application and interview. A timetable for applications will be added soon. Please email [email protected] directly for more information about our processes.
