How we make a difference How you're helping us transform children's lives In 2018/19, thanks to our supporters, we were able to help 3,744 babies, children and young people across the North East of England - an increase of 4.5% on the previous year. We ran 21 diverse projects from Northumberland down to Teesside providing a wide range of interventions from parent-infant psychotherapy to counselling for victims of sexual and physical abuse. In addition, our Schools team worked with more than 43,000 primary and secondary pupils across the country through our unique Poverty Proofing the School Day initiative and associated wellbeing courses. With your help: We provided 3,506 specialist counselling sessions for 609 young people with mental health problems aged nine to 25. Ninety three per cent of young people attending counselling said they felt their views and worries were taken seriously. 194 young people benefited from a Youth Link volunteer across Tyneside, Northumberland and Teesside. Youth Link is a peer mentoring service that involves young people helping other young people. Seventy nine per cent of young people with a peer mentor said they had improved their choices and behaviour. 197 families were helped by our NEWPIP service in 2018/19. Newcastle Parent Infant Partnership is one of only 27 such teams in the country and the only one in our region. It offers psychotherapy to parents struggling to bond with their babies. Eighty eight per cent of parents attending this project said they'd recommend the service to another parent. 116 families enjoyed free music sessions, helping parents bond with their infants.
