Sharon West I’ve been nominated by my lovely brother to run 5k. The thing is, I’ve not exactly done a lot of running lately... so a 5k run without stopping feels like a bit of a marathon to me at the moment.

So I’ve decided to set myself a ‘Couch to Corbridge’ challenge - over the next 9 weeks I’ve committed to running at least three times a week... gradually building up to running 5k... the equivalent distance from my sofa to Corbridge... without stopping.

I’m also going to eat better and drink less... all of which which will hopefully result in some flattening of the curves!

I hope you will sponsor me to give my motivation a boost, in the knowledge you will also be helping to support children and families who have been hardest hit by Covid-19.

The ongoing health crisis has affected us all... balancing work and entertaining small children has been ‘interesting’ for us... but that is nothing compared to the stress and hardship so many families in the North East are experiencing.

Children North East are a fantastic grass-roots charity providing support where it is needed most. Right now they are providing food parcels to families struggling to make ends meet; supplying technology to enable kids to learn at home; offering phone and online counselling to teenagers isolated from their friends; and, in response to a rise in incidents of violence in the home during lockdown, running a helpline for people suffering domestic abuse.

I shall update you with how I get on... but for now, thank you in advance for any donation you might be able to give.

PS - Story Space is a project Hexham Book Festival and Children North East are working in partnership together on - providing new stories, read by amazing authors and some familiar faces, to inspire and motivate children isolated at home. If you've missed any of the stories you can can can catch up at All funds raised through the project will be used by Children North East where it is needed most.
