Tyneside Rotary put on a fun night of fine food, dancing and fundraising at the Grand Hotel in Gosforth at their Under The Sea themed Ball at the weekend.

Two hundred and fifty glamorous guests gathered in the beautifully decorated hotel function suite to help meet the £20,000 target for Children North East to buy a much-needed mini bus. The vehicle will provide transport to get groups of children and young people out of the city and off for adventures to the coast and countryside.

Enthusiastic dancing and fundraising!

There was a prize draw and silent auction with wonderful prizes including afternoon tea at Jesmond Dene House and a three night stay for two at a lovely B+B in Wensleydale. There was a bit of a showdown over a NUFC signed football, with two eager bidders doing battle to bag the ball!

Senior Fundraiser Carol Taylor introduced the Children North East animation that brilliantly explains how our charity helps children living in challenging circumstances in the North East grow up healthy and happy. The guests then tucked into a three course meal, followed by enthusiastic dancing to live band Chameleon until the small hours.

£20,000 and still counting

Tyneside Rotary’s Chairman Bill Midgley is really pleased with how the evening went and said guests particularly loved the music and the purpose of the evening itself.

"Tyneside Rotary chose to support the charity because we wanted to give something back to the community and when we heard about the heritage and mission of Children North East we really wanted to set ourselves a major fundraising challenge. It really fits with the ethos of Rotary to help the local community.”

Having already raised a staggering £16,000 since kicking off their 12-month fundraising campaign for our charity back in October, they announced at the end of the ball that they have now hit the £20,000 target they originally set, but they’re not finished yet!

Tyneside Rotary Club have further events lined up to raise even more cash, including a sponsored walk at Alnwick this coming weekend, a bric-a-brac sale at Tynemouth Station along with a Chinese evening in the summer.
