Big-hearted staff at the call centre operator Sitel Group’s Newcastle base have raised more than £7,500 to help children and young people in our region after adopting Children North East as one of their chosen charities.

And one member of the workforce at Quorum Business Park had a particularly close-shave during the company’s incredible six-month fund-raising drive.

Natalie Lunn, from Wallsend, had her lovely long locks lopped off in front of colleagues in a sponsored head shave that contributed £767 towards the £7,565 total.

She also invited her two-year-old son, Oliver, along. “If I’d gone to work with hair and then gone home without any it would have been a big shock but I figured if he saw it happening it wouldn’t be such a fright for him.”

It fell to HR manager, Lisa Boiston, to wield the scissors and clippers on the day. “She was shaking like a leaf,” laughed Natalie. “I think she was more nervous than me!”

Fun-loving staff also took part in a Dress Down Day that raised over £900 alongside a raffle, tombola and bake sale.

Receiving Sitel’s big cheque, Carol Taylor, senior fundraiser at Children North East, said:

We were thrilled to be chosen by Sitel and have had an amazing six month partnership from this very enthusiastic team whose fundraising efforts will make a big impact on the lives of so many local children and young people.

The dedication and creativity from all the staff to reach their target has been outstanding and they should all be very proud of what they have achieved – we can’t thank them enough.

Judith Mottershead, Sitel Site Director said:  “I am overwhelmed by the generosity and support of our employees. We have worked really closely with Carol and the fundraising team at Children North East. We also supported and fully enjoyed their Sandcastle Challenge at South Shields in July. I am really pleased that all our hard-earned money will go to such a worthy cause.”
